- Rapid growth rates cause geographic data to become outdated very rapidly.
- Even census tract information can become statistically problematic in areas of high growth; e.g., some Las Vegas tracts increased in population by 1600% from 1990 to 1997. What is an appropriate demographic snapshot of a tract like this?
- Collecting and standardizing geographic data can be difficult. Data quality is essential but we do not have good geographic tools for abstracters and reporters to do quality control. Metadata is a necessary component of data.
- GIS can become the hammer that makes everything look like a nail: it is easy to forget that one must still have a need to look at data geographically for GIS to be worthwhile.
